When Mason was small, I wanted to get him in the habit of using sunglasses to protect his eyes. As a baby, he didn't care about the fun designs on his sunglasses. He just wanted them off his face. So I started putting them on him and telling him "You look like such a cool dude with those on!" He could get behind this, and wasn't so eager to take them off. Over time, he started calling all glasses--my eyeglasses included--"cool dudes".
Well, fastforward to a year and a half later. We were watching his alphabet, and sunglasses are listed under the letter "S". Last night at bedtime, he noticed the different name and couldn't decide what to call them. Amid parental chuckling, he settled on "Sun cool dudes."
I know I've already posted this picture, but it's too cute not to share again. These are the beloved, soon-to-be-retired Thomas The Tank Engine "cool dudes". If anyone has seen these anywhere, let me know. (Mason cracked one of the lenses and I can't find a replacement pair in any of my usual haunts, including the place I purchased them originally. I try not to spend more than $5 due to the short lifespan these things have in his capable, slightly destructive hands.)
