Mason hasn't been feeling well the last couple of days, and one thing this can often mean is lots of bedding changes. I only have one pillowcase that matches his bedding and, as he can be such a creature of habit, I was trying to convince him that the pillowcase I had gotten out would be fun even if it didn't have trucks on it.
Mason loves to help, which as many parents know, is often more of a hindrance. We try to give him age-appropriate tasks so he can feel like a contributor without us having to follow behind and undo what he's doing.
So as I'm putting the clean bedding on his bed, with this new pillowcase, I asked if he could put the "blue squares" on his pillow to "help Mama." He gladly accepted the task. By "accepted", I mean he took the pillow, threw it on the ground, and then threw the pillowcase on top of it. I couldn't help laughing out loud when he commended himself for doing a "Good job, buddy!"
I guess I should know him well enough by now to realize I need to be explicit with my instructions. He will do exactly as he is asked.
